Summary of the Article:
During Cameroon's election season of October 2011 votes were counted by the Supreme Court.... but these weren't living people's votes. These votes were made by dead people, one being the former deputy prime minister's vote. With this allegation, the other candidates have called this election rigged from the very beginning, with the vote in the current President's, Paul Biya, candidacy in favor. These problems indicate a dire need for the voting system to be improved to prevent further fraud, and intimidation.
My Thoughts:
This article revealed some political instability within the election process of Cameroon, that I believe if it doesn't get fixed that this could lead to future trouble. I could predict a possible civil war within the country, because of the fraud voting scandal. My thoughts on this situation are that why doesn't the supreme court do something, or take action into investigating who is doing this illegal voting, and eradicate it. This incident should not be overlooked, or tossed to the side, but handled now.
Political Tie in to the Country:
This article ties into the country politically through the elections that take place to elect a new, or keep the President. Even though the amount of 'dead people' that voted was minimal, what if in a future election there was an incredibly close race where a few were the margins of victory, and somebody won, because of those votes. This of course is a hypothetical situation, but it it were to occur, then this election process would become fraud for sure, and that would politically change the country of Cameroon. The whole election process is heavily important to the country.
